Abstract: We consider common features of the interaction of electromagnetic fields with thin-wire structures with symmetrical geometry: a straight wire above a perfectly conducting ground, a semi-circular wire perpendicular to a perfectly conducting ground, and single and double helical wires. All of these models are important in various applications of electromagnetic compatibility.  Interaction of electromagnetic field with thin wires are described by a system of Mixed Potential Integro - differential Equations (MPIE), linking induced currents to potentials. Due to the geometrical symmetry of these structures, the kernels of the MPIE depend only on the differences of arguments (natural parameters), which make it possible to solve it by different kinds of Fourier transformation for arbitrary excitation. Two most important cases of excitation are considered: excitation by a plane wave and excitation by a lumped source.

Biography: Dr. Sergey V. Tkachenko Sergey V. Tkachenko (Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Moscow, Russia, in 1958. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematical and theoretical physics from the Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute (National Research Nuclear University MEPhI now), Moscow, in 1981 and 1987, respectively. From 1986 to 1989, he was a Researcher and a Senior Researcher with the Department of Electromagnetic Compatibility, State Radio Research Institute (NIIR), Moscow dealing with different aspects of technical electrodynamics. In 1993, he was an Invited Researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, for eight months. From 1996 to 1999, he was again with the electromagnetic compatibility laboratory of the EPFL within the framework of the European INTAS Project 94-3939 “Electromagnetic Compatibility of Interconnection Cables Subject to Interferences.”  Since 2000, he has been an Invited Researcher with the Institute for Fundamental Electrical Engineering and EMC (Institute of Medical Technique now), Chair of Electromagnetic Compatibility, Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Magdeburg, Germany. His research interests include applied electromagnetics and electromagnetic compatibility, in particular electromagnetic field coupling to complex wiring structures, also inside cavities or (and) with stochastic geometry. Dr. Tkachenko is an Elected EMP Fellow in 2008 and is a winner (2019) of the Carl E. Baum Medal for theoretical investigation of high-frequency electromagnetic field coupling to transmission lines in different environments. He, together with J. Nitsch, received the Best HPE Paper Award four times.
