[ Huntington’s Disease Society of America – HD Human Biology Project | Research Funding ]

Event details
Date | 22.05.2020 |
Category | Call for proposal |
Aim: The Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) is interested in sponsoring innovative lines of inquiry into human HD patient data that will shed light on the most proximal biological events caused by the mutant huntingtin gene. The Human Biology Project has the goal of fostering innovative research in collaboration with HD clinics to better understand the biology of Huntington’s disease as it occurs in humans. The research to be supported by HDSA should meet these two criteria:
• First, the proposals must involve the use of HD patients, patient data and samples or human HD model systems to maximize the impact on the execution of future clinical trials and/or drug discovery programs for HD.
• Second, the research proposals should involve a collaboration with investigators/clinicians at a reputable HD clinic anywhere around the world.
Funding: 1-2 years
Duration: $150,000
Eligibility: While the program is open to researchers from around the world regardless of position/title, preference will be given to young postdoctoral and clinical investigators (PhD and/or MDs) who are not yet independent. If the applicant is a post-doctoral or clinical research fellow, a mentor must be identified. Innovative ideas from non-scientists will also be accepted and encouraged. Recipients must commit at least 50% effort to the project.
How to Apply: Letters of Intent (LOIs) and Applications must be submitted through HDSA’s online application portal. The LOI should be a short Microsoft Word document of 1000 words or less and should include a short summary outlining the intended research, any background and/or preliminary data, the specific aims, a brief experimental plan, the estimated time required to complete studies, and qualifications of the researcher/applicant. LOIs will be reviewed by the HDSA Scientific Advisory Board and those most closely aligning with the statement of need will be invited to submit a full proposal.
Deadline, letter of intent: 22-May-2020
Deadline, full application: 24-July-2020 (by invitation)
