Architecture can only be truly experienced in buildings. A lot of architectural education mediated essentially a selection of details and perspectives of designing process. The ambition of apprenticeship is not to present a visual outcome, it is an opportunity and an attempt to set out the substantial ideas that define architectural work. Just as in a laboratory, the fundamental components are first to assemble. The individual substances represent authentic traces of inspiration and provide a preview of certain structural qualities, without actually depicting or representing the building. But how can we form the building from pre-existing elements? What special requirements are placed here for the architect? What can architectural education contribute to? What should you study to become an architect?
