Objectives
Present (especially beginners) and future users of laser systems are strongly encouraged to attend this course, as well as all individuals who wish to extend their knowledge on laser safety.

All users of open beam class 3B or 4 lasers at EPFL have to follow a laser safety training. This can be either online or classroom training. For more information on this subject, please consult the web page on laser hazards.

Objectives
- At the end of the training, the participant will be able to explain laser hazards and risks.
- The participant will have basic knowledge on laser classes.
- The participant will understand general technical, organizational and personal control measures applicable to laser risks.
- The participant will be capable of applying these general measures to his/her experimental setup.
- Lasing fundamentals, laser light properties
- Understanding of laser hazards
- Beam hazards. Primary sites of damages
- Collateral hazards
- Examples/analysis of accidents
- Evaluation of laser hazards
- Laser classes.
- Laser controls
- Engineering (technical) safety measures
- Organizational safety measures
- Protective equipment: laser goggles
