Life depends on the energy associated with the flow of electrons and many biological systems have chemical compounds that are directly involved in the exchange of electrons during energy production in the cell. This energy in the form of electricity can be directly extracted with bacteria able to transfer these electrons to a solid substance outside the cell. This seminar will explain how this is done and the potential applications of electricity producing bacteria in engineered systems.
