This fall, the high-throughput experimentation lab (HTEL) at the University of Zurich (UZH) has finally opened its doors officially and offers a variety of robotic platforms to support and accelerate research in the UZH Department of Chemistry.
Besides a sophisticated platform by Chemspeed, the main robotic capabilities are based on pipetting robots by Opentrons. Our OT2 and Flex units have emerged as popular platform for a broad variety of applications due to their very user-friendly, open and flexible ecosphere, their capable performance - and also due to the low access barrier. Over the past year, numerous researchers and students have been trained to use the Opentrons devices, which enabled them to harness the benefits of lab automation in a variety of research scenarios.
This presentation will feature a quick overview of the UZH HTEL, a basic introduction to lab automation and a demonstration of three conceptually very different research projects which have been recently conducted in the HTEL, covering DNA extraction from beech trees, the analysis of bovine steroids and the synthesis of cyanine photocages.
