Increase in potency of adult stem/progenitor cells holds great expectations for regenerative medicine; reprogramming can be achieved by manipulation of the genome, or indirectly by manipulating the microenvironment. However, genetic manipulation bears strict regulatory constraints that can severely impact translation to the clinic. An alternate route to genetic reprogramming is to explore the full extend of adult stem cell potency. I shall present data demonstrating that adult stem cells can be robustly reprogrammed if exposed to proper environmental cues.
