In this talk, we will see how a metric structure on the indexing category, D, determines a metric on any of its diagram categories, via the notion of interleavings of diagrams. The hidden categorical underpinnings of persistent homology will be discussed and exploited; time permitting, we will see how Kan extensions enter the fray!
We will conclude with applications to a general framework of persistent homology, encompassing sublevelset, levelset, multidimensional, and angle-valued persistence.
