Aim: MDA Venture Philanthropy (MVP) is the Muscular Dystrophy Association's drug development program, which operates within MDA's Translational Research program. MVP is exclusively focused on funding the discovery and clinical application of treatments and cures for neuromuscular diseases.
 
Adapting elements of the venture capital model, the MVP business plan is characterized by an emphasis on measurable results along with deep involvement by its scientific and industry advisers. MVP evaluates and makes targeted investments in for-profit and not-for-profit companies and academics developing therapeutics for neuromuscular diseases. MVP funds projects from proof-of-principle studies through phase 2 trials.

Funding:       Research and Development: max $650’000
                        Preclinical: max $500’000
                        Clinical: max $1’000’000
 
Eligibility: Biotechnology, pharmaceutical or other companies are eligible for MVP funding. MVP also may choose to invest in academic projects that fit within the mission of MDA’s translational research program, whereby the project has a path toward clinical development. Companies may be public or private, and MVP does not discriminate between U.S. and international projects.
 
Budget: Applicants may budget for salary support, materials, supplies, consumables, travel costs for scientific meetings, and other expenses as justified. Budget and budget justification must be included with the application.
 
How to Apply: Letters of Intent must first be submitted via proposalCENTRAL .
If the LoI is successful, the applicant will be requested to conduct an interview via webinar to provide further information. Select applicants will then be invited to submit a full application package.  For more details on requirements, see the Application Instructions.
 
Deadlines:  Letters of Intent have quarterly deadlines (01-Mar, 01-Jun, 01-Sep, 01-Dec)
