Carolina Aguilar is the CEO and Co-Founder of INBRAIN Neuroelectronics, a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer leading the development of graphene-based brain–computer interfaces. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare, including 13 years at Medtronic heading global neuromodulation and diabetes businesses, she has a proven track record in scaling innovation. Under her leadership, INBRAIN has raised over $100M, achieved FDA Breakthrough Device Designation, and delivered the world’s first graphene neural implant to humans. Passionate about transforming neurotechnology into life-changing therapies, Carolina is shaping the future of precision neuroelectronics worldwide.
The nervous system remains the most complex and least understood frontier of medicine. Advances in precision neuroelectronics are now converging with frontier materials, data science, and bioengineering to create a new generation of therapies that go beyond symptomatic treatment toward adaptive, personalized interventions. In this lecture, I will explore how innovations in scalable materials such as graphene, combined with semiconductor-style manufacturing and AI-driven neuromodulation, are opening pathways to decode and modulate neural circuits with unprecedented resolution. These breakthroughs have the potential to transform the way we treat neurological and systemic diseases, redefining how technology and biology interface in the decades to come.
This seminar is part of NX422 lecture: Neural interfaces.
