Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a recently developed laser based imaging technique that can image the internal structure of materials. It is particularly suitable for biological materials. The technique enables real-time, video-rate visualization and measurement of biological details that are too small to be seen with ultrasound and too deep for conventional microscopy.
Michelson Diagnostics have developed OCT systems which use multiple beams to achieve extremely high resolution over extended imaging depths (<7.5micron over 2mm depth). The presentation will introduce OCT and the Multi-beam OCT technology and provide examples of imaging capability for biological sciences, skin research and as an aid to the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, port wine stain birth marks and rosacea.
Demonstration systems will be available after the presentation and participants are encouraged to bring samples to be imaged. These can be biological or non-biological.
