Established in 2003 in Luzern, the Osteology Foundation promotes research, education and collaboration between universities and industry in the field of oral and maxillofacial tissue regeneration all over the world. The objective is to make new techniques and products available to practitioners quicker and with greater goal orientation.
 
The Osteology Foundation funds clinical, pre-clinical and in vitro studies.
Research topics falling within the scope of the Osteology Foundation are:

  • Bone and soft tissue biology: clinical aspects
  • Local factors affecting oral tissue regeneration
  • Systemic diseases with an impact on oral tissue regeneration
  • Novel bone and soft tissue substitute materials
  • Pharmacological aspects of oral tissue regeneration
  • Inflammatory conditions, e.g. periodontitis, peri-implantitis.
 
The Osteology Foundation offers two types of grants:

1. Advanced Researcher Grants
  • Who can apply: advanced researchers in the field of oral tissue regeneration.
  • Funding & Duration: CHF 100’000 for up to 2 years.
  • Awarding criteria: Clinical relevance; Originality of hypothesis; Facilities and qualifications; Preliminary data.
2. Young Researcher Grants
  • Who can apply: young researchers currently undergoing post-graduate education or within three years thereafter.
  • Funding & Duration: CHF 30’000 for up to 1 year.
  • Awarding criteria: Courage to take risks; Sound hypothesis and aims that show thinking out of the box; Research plan; Motivation letter; Recommendation letter.
 
Restrictions:
  • Product-based research will be rejected.
  • The grant cannot cover the total amount of funding required for the planned study.
  • You cannot submit the same application in parallel to another grant provider.
 
Eligible costs: Academic Salaries of the investigators included in the project. Salaries of technical staff can be funded in justified cases; Equipment (except for basic laboratory equipment such as microscope and cell culture incubator); 10% overhead; Supplies; Travel; Clinical and pre-clinical studies, other expenses. 
 
Deadline for Abstracts: 15 June or 1 December (every year) via the online application system.
The Science Committee of the Osteology Foundation selects, on average, one third of the projects, which then progress to the second stage (full proposal).
Deadline for Full Proposals: 15 October or 15 April (respectively) via the online application system.
