Our group at EPFL has contributed to the development of some new sensors of electrical current, which are now commercially available; and to some others, which might once become “disruptive technology”. While doing so, we had to push back various limits. I will describe some examples of this process. The examples shall show how we extended our knowledge and know-how in the field of current sensing; how we tried to share our enthusiasm with industry; how our industrial partners dealt with economic limits; and how the others circumvented some barriers that we considered insurmountable.
