Edge localized modes (ELM) are periodic bursts of ejected plasma particles and energy. For ITER the estimations are of several mega Joules of energy per square meter on the plasma facing components. This phenomenon is very harmful and a detail study of its dynamics for a better control/mitigation of this instability is required. To this purpose calculations of the ELM instability have been carry out. An analytical expression of the ELM precursors rotation is derived. Also, nonlinearly, the saturation of the instability and the ejection of filaments is studied. The described ELM dynamics show to be robust and our results are in qualitative agreement with experimental measurements in several tokamaks (KSTAR, ASDEX, MAST and NSTX).
