Prof. Lyesse Laloui and Prof. Bertrand François (University of Brussels) organized the Second International Workshop on Geomechanics and Energy. The workshop was held in Celle (Germany), from 13 to 15 October 2015 and attracted more than 100 participants from universities, research centres and industries.
The workshop provided a forum for scientists and engineers to present the most recent contributions of geomechanics to various fields of energy. The areas of interest were related to geomechanical applications in the subsurface extraction of energy and the storage of waste, including the different levels of investigations: in-situ investigation, laboratory experiment, constitutive modelling and numerical modelling. The specific topics of interest included hydrocarbon exploration and production, underground storage and geothermal energy.
During the workshop a Keynote lecture was given by Prof. Lyesse Laloui entitled “Geomechanical Solutions to Geo-energy Issues”; Dr. Alessio Ferrari chaired the poster session. Three oral presentations in the thematic sessions were given by Dr. Alessio Ferrari, Ms. Valentina Favero, and Dr. Victor Villarrasa.
