The SNSF has launched a special call for Scientific Exchanges to the UK, enabling research visits of up to 12 months in priority areas:
  • Synthetic biology
  • Languages
  • Materials
  • Life and physical sciences interface.

Research visits funded by the special call can start at any point between 1 August 2022 and 1 October 2023. Funding decisions will be made and communicated within three months of the call deadline (8 April 2022).

The visit must be of mutual added value and scientific benefit for both parties involved.

Who can apply: only 1 applicant
  • Employed at least 20% and receive a salary at a Swiss research institution for the duration of the visit and no less than six months following the visit.
  • The data container «Other applicants» on mySNF is to be left empty for the purpose of this call. It is not to be used for the UK partner.
  • Both the host and the guest must hold a doctorate or 3 years of research work, and be in a position to carry out research projects under their own responsibility and to lead project staff both scientifically and as personnel. Researchers employed on an SNSF-funded project are NOT eligible.
  • Parallel SNSF funding: Scientific Exchanges can be applied for and run in parallel to other SNSF funding, but scientific overlaps must be avoided (i.e. if a visit or event is directly linked to another SNSF grant, it should be funded by this other SNSF grant).

Funding:
  • The grant budget includes travel costs for one return trip of up to CHF 500 and a monthly flat rate for living expenses of up to CHF 3’000, for a maximum of CHF 36’500.
  • You can ask for child care costs (up to CHF 1’000 per month) for room, board and travel costs for children accompanying the visitor.
  • Research costs (e.g. for materials or access to infrastructures) are not eligible.

Deadlines:
  • For research visits to the UK: 8 April 2022
  • For research visits to CH: 8 March 2022

How to:
  • Proposals for research visits to the UK must be submitted on mySNF under Science Communication > ScientificExchanges 2022.
  • Proposals for research visits to CH must be submitted via UKRI.
