We demonstrate the generation of multiple thermodynamically stable steps in density through phase separation using mixtures of aqueous solutions of polymers and surfactants. The studies on phase separation of polymers/surfactants in aqueous media have been limited to two-phase systems mainly targeting partitioning of chemicals or species of biological origin (i.e cells, proteins etc). We propose to utilize AMS in separation of several objects ranging from nanoparticles to the cells of blood.
