Who needs electrons? - The lecture will describe recent advances in the field of detection, transport and generation of single photons; it will cover a number of applications based on single-photon detection and imaging in the fields biomolecular sciences, physics, and biomedical optics, as well as the impact to science, engineering, and to society as a whole. ::: In Praise of Sparsity - In this talk, I will review the recent successes of sparsity in data processing with a focus on existing and emerging applications, trying to highlight the remarkable amount of multi-disciplinarity that sustain this field.
