Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), the Department of Defense is announcing the 2024 Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP). Several award programs are available:

  • The Career Development Award - Scholar Option supports an independent, highly accomplished early-career investigator (referred to as a Scholar) to conduct impactful research under the guidance of an experienced cancer researcher (i.e., Career Guide). Scholars are required to participate in the unique, interactive Virtual Cancer Center (VCC) focused on fostering the next generation of cancer researchers
All applications must specifically address at least one of the Topic Areas listed in this document.
 
  • The Idea Award supports innovative, untested, high-risk/potentially high-reward concepts, theories, paradigms, and/or basic cancer research. The advancement of knowledge in cancer research, patient care, and/or treatment options in the MHS is critical to active-duty Service Members, Veterans, other military beneficiaries, and the American public.
All applications must specifically address at least one of the Topic Areas listed in this document.
 
  • The Impact Award supports high-impact research that can accelerate promising findings toward clinical applicability. The intent of the Impact Award mechanism is to fund mature research projects that specifically focus on critical scientific or clinical cancer issues, which have the potential to make a major near-term impact on at least one of the PRCRP Topic Areas and in at least one of the Overarching Challenges.
All applications must specifically address at least one of the Topic Areas listed in this document.
 
  • The Patient Well-Being and Survivorship Award supports innovative research studies to advance research in preservation of function (physical ability), quality of life, symptom management, resilience, relief from neurocognitive deficits, and support for psychosocial issues related to cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
All applications must specifically address at least one of the Topic Areas listed in this document.

  • Career Development Award - Scholar Option: $800,000
  • Idea Award: $400,000
  • Impact Award: $1M
  • Patient Well-Being and Survivorship Award: $1M

Duration:
  • Career Development Award - Scholar Option: 4 years
  • Idea Award: 2 years
  • Impact Award: 3 years
  • Patient Well-Being and Survivorship Award: 4 years

Eligibility: Applicants from international organizations or institutions are eligible to apply, and there are no citizenship restrictions. Independent investigators at all career levels are eligible.

How to Apply: Pre-applications are submitted through the eBRAP platform. They should contain contact information, a letter of intent, and a list of collaborators and key personnel as suggested on the platform. Full applications will be made via a Grants.gov workspace. Application packages can be downloaded from Grants.gov at any time.
