Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), the Department of Defense is announcing the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) Awards.

All applications for PRMRP funding must specifically address at least one of the Topic Areas as directed by Congress and have direct relevance to military health. Several award programs are available:
  • The Discovery Award supports innovative, non-incremental, high-risk/potentially high-reward research. Studies supported by this award are expected to lay the groundwork for future avenues of scientific investigation.
  • The Investigator-Initiated Research Award supports studies that will make an important contribution toward research and/or patient care for a disease or condition related to one of the FY23 PRMRP Topic Areas. Supported research should have the potential to yield highly impactful data that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements.
  • The Focused Program Awards are intended to optimize research and accelerate solutions to a critical question related to one of the congressionally directed FY23 PRMRP Topic Areas through a synergistic, multidisciplinary research program. Applications shall include multiple, distinct research projects led by individual project leaders (minimum 4 projects).
  • The Clinical Trial Awards support the rapid implementation of clinical trials with the potential to have a significant impact on a disease or condition addressed in one of the congressionally directed FY23 PRMRP Topic Areas.
  • The Technology Therapeutic Development Award is a product-driven award mechanism intended to provide support for the translation of promising preclinical findings into products for clinical applications, including prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, or quality of life, for a disease or condition related to one of the FY23 PRMRP Topic Areas.
