Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), the Department of Defense is announcing the 2026 Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP). Several award programs are available:
  • The Clinical Trial Award supports the rapid execution and analysis of clinical trials with the potential to have a significant impact on the treatment or management of a disease or condition addressed in one of the Topic Areas and one of the Strategic Goals. Proposed projects may range from small proof-of-concept trials through large-scale, definitive trials.
  • The Discovery Award supports innovative, untested, non-incremental, high risk/potentially high-reward research that will provide new insights, paradigms, technologies, or applications with impact on one of the Topic Areas and one of the Strategic Goals.
  • The Impact Award supports applied research, defined as use-inspired and practice-oriented science that brings together outcomes from basic research and insights from the real-world environment to foster clinical applicability. Applications should demonstrate the potential to make a near-term, major impact on one of the Topic Areas and one of the Strategic Goals.
  • The Lifestyle and Applied Health Research Award supports clinical research and/or clinical trials using a combination of scientific disciplines, including occupational science, psychology, psychometrics, biostatistics and epidemiology, surveillance, implementation science, and population health.  Applications must address and provide a solution to one of the Topic Areas and one of the Strategic Goals.
  • The Platform Clinical Translation Award supports the translational development and/or early phase clinical trials for broadly applicable clinical technologies that will address urgent and complex needs related to two Topic Areas. Applications must address one of the Strategic Goals.
  • The Research Advancement Award supports fundamental research studies that will make an important contribution towards research, patient care, and/or quality of life for a disease or condition related to one of the Topic Areas and one of the Strategic Goals.
  • The Technology/Therapeutic Development Award supports the translation of promising preclinical findings into products for clinical applications, including prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, or quality of life, for a disease or condition related to one of the Topic Areas and one of the Strategic Goals. Applications must describe product-oriented research. Products can be tangible items, such as drugs or devices, or can be knowledge products, such as clinical decision-making tools or practice guidelines.
Please see Section 3.2.1 'FY26 PRMRP Topic Areas and Strategic Goals' under the respective Award/Funding Opportunity Number.
