Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), the Department of Defense is announcing the Peer-Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) Awards. The PRMRP Focused Program Award is intended to optimize research and accelerate solutions to a critical question through a synergistic, multidisciplinary research program.
Key aspects of this award include:
Relevance to the healthcare needs of military Service members, Veterans, military beneficiaries, and/or the American public is a key feature of this award. Applications are required to include an explanation of how the proposed project has relevance to military health.
All applications for PRMRP funding must specifically address at least one of the Topic Areas as directed by Congress and have direct relevance to military health. The FY20 PRMRP Topic Areas are listed at the end of this announcement.
Funding: max. $7’200’000
Duration: 4 years
Eligibility: Applicants from international organizations or institutions are eligible to apply, and there are no citizenship restrictions. PI applicants must be independent investigators at or above the level of Full Professor (or equivalent). Project leaders for each of the complementary and synergistic research projects must be at or above the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent).

They should contain contact information, a preproposal narrative, and a list of collaborators and key personnel as suggested on the platform. Key aspects of this award include:
- Overarching Challenge: Focused Program Award applications must describe a unifying, overarching challenge that will be addressed by a set of research projects.
- Research Projects: Applications shall include multiple, distinct research projects led by individual project leaders that address complementary aspects of the overarching challenge. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a minimum of four research projects; additional studies are allowed.
- Research Team: The overall effort will be led by a Principal Investigator (PI) with demonstrated success in leading large, focused projects.. The research team assembled by the PI should be highly qualified and multidisciplinary, with identified project leaders for each of the complementary and synergistic research projects.
