When trying to explain complex links explaining human behaviour, science often needs to find a balance between experimental control and fidelity to real life situations. This is best achieved by studying a problem through its multiple facets and relying on transversal research. For instance, by investigating behavioural age-related changes relying on psychophysics and epidemiology. In this optic, the laboratory of psychophysics (EPFL) and the unit of traffic medicine and psychology (UNIL/UNIGE) joined forces to study effects of aging on early visual-cortical processing and driving performance due to current lack of systematic transversal research in this area. This presentation illustrates preliminary results of this collaboration, and hopes to encourage others to explore similar opportunities.
