The UK-based charity, Wellcome Trust, launches a one-off research grant to support groups of researchers who want the time and resources to shape the direction of their future work.
The research development programme you propose must:
- lead to a significant and sustainable research agenda that takes risks and pushes academic boundaries.
- develop the careers of the people in your research group.
- build a diverse and collaborative research community.
In your application, you must give a clear outline of how you will develop a research agenda and support the careers of people in your research group.
Who can apply:
- Emerging or established research groups anywhere in the world, who are working in health-related humanities, social sciences or bioethics.
- The lead applicant must have experience in running a research programme or network, or in delivering complex projects.
- 1-6 co-applicants at any career stage.
Funding and duration: GBP 1 million for 3-5 years.
Eligible costs: the PI can ask for part of her/his salary, provided that the host institution confirms that the PI’s salary must come from external grant funding (contact [email protected]) and that the PI commits at least 10% of the time to the project. Other eligible costs are personnel, consumables, equipment, open access charges, travel, conference, meeting and other project-related costs. Overheads are not eligible.
Timeline of the call:
- Deadline for preliminary applications: 3 March 2020 at 17:00 GMT. Submit your application to [email protected] at least 7 days prior to the deadline to obtain an institutional letter of support.
- Site visits: September/October 2020
- Deadline for full applications: January 2021. Submit your application to [email protected] at least 7 days prior to the deadline to obtain an institutional letter of support.
- Review and shortlisting: March 2021
- Decision: April 2021
