The Wellcome Trust was founded in 1936 by Sir Henry Wellcome, a medical entrepreneur, collector and philanthropist. Its mission is to improve health for everyone by supporting scientists and researchers take on big problems, fuel imaginations, and spark debate. The Foundation works with academia, philanthropy, businesses, governments and civil society around the world to take on health challenges.

The foundation’s “Snakebite Grants” support researchers working on innovative approaches to discover and develop next generation treatments for snakebite.

Your proposal must:

  • consider the complexity and variety of snake venoms,
  • address efficacy, safety and developability,
  • lead to a consistent and low-cost product or treatment.

You can NOT apply if your proposal is for drone/delivery technology, diagnostics, non-specific biocides, auxiliary technology.

Who can apply: applicants anywhere in the world, leading a research programme, and based at an academic research organization, a not-for-profit or government body or a private sector organisation.

Funding & Duration: £ 500K – 3M for up to 5 years.

Deadline for Expression of Interest: as soon as possible – no later than 15 March 2020 at 17:00 GMT.
Deadline for full application: 10 June 2020
Decision: September 2020
