Yang has a long-standing interest in human genetics, dating back to his early education in China where he received his undergrad and master’s degrees. Dr. Yang currently serves as Vice Chair for the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and is the Associate Director of the Hematological Malignancies T32 Training Program at the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center. He was elected President of the Pharmacogenomics Research Network in 2021. Dr. Yang has been continuously funded by the NIH since 2011 and receives funding from prestigious nonprofit organizations including the V Foundation. However, whether this oncogenic process, particularly observed in the intestine, can be initiated by a specific immune cell population remains unknown. We recently identified two distinct effector T cell populations capable to initiate the oncogenic transformation of a healthy intestinal epithelium (Fesneau et al., Nat Immunol. 2024; Brewer et al., Nat. Rev. Canc. 2024), as well as the factors controlling their differentiation. The ultimate research goal of our group is to synthesize nitrogen-containing organic compounds efficiently and directly from N<sub>2</sub> gas as the nitrogen source, bypassing the NH<sub>3</sub>-depended synthetic pathway, mainly via metal-mediated or catalyzed dinitrogen functionalization.<sup>1</sup><br>\r\n<br>\r\n<img alt=\"\" id=\"_x0000_i1025\" o:ole=\"\" src=\"file:///C:/Users/mborcard/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image001.emz\"><br>\r\n<img alt=\"\" id=\"图片_x0020_1\" src=\"file:///C:/Users/mborcard/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image002.emz\"><br>\r\n<br>\r\nAt this presentation, I will briefly introduce two results recently realized in my research group. After a fixed number of steps, the left tail has a Gaussian profile under minimal assumptions. Remarkably, a similar phenomenon occurs when we consider a positive random walk on the cone of positive-semidefinite matrices. After a fixed number of steps, the minimum eigenvalue is described by a Gaussian random matrix model.<br>\r\nThis talk introduces a new way to make this intuition rigorous. The methodology addresses an open problem in computational mathematics about sparse random embeddings.
