For this RFP, sporadic FTD is defined as FTD that develops without an identified known causal gene mutation. Projects must have clear relevance to sporadic FTD; studies using <em>GRN</em>, <em>MAPT</em>, or <em>C9orf72</em> models must explain how their findings will inform sporadic FTD beyond known genetic causes.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe program will fund its fourth annual cohort and seeks bold, rigorous, collaborative, and catalytic projects that broaden foundational knowledge of FTD and spur diagnostic and therapeutic advances. Responsive topics include basic biology; computational, AI, and data-driven approaches; biomarker discovery and validation; neuroimaging; proteinopathies; neuroinflammation and non-neuronal cells; environmental factors; novel risk factors and disease pathways; and innovative experimental models. Investigators from outside traditional FTD research fields are encouraged to apply, provided the team includes sufficient expertise in FTD biology.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Duration</strong>: 2 years<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Funding</strong>: up to $500,000<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Eligibility: </strong>Applicants can be based at eligible nonprofit academic or research institutions worldwide, including public or private universities and related research institutions; certain governmental agencies with active biomedical research programs may also apply. The PI must hold a PhD, MD, or related research doctorate and be an <strong>independent investigator </strong>as defined by the host institution. Early-career and newly independent investigators are strongly encouraged. Multidisciplinary collaborations are welcome, but one corresponding PI and one submitting institution must be designated. Institutions may submit multiple proposals, provided each is led by a different PI. Current Kissick Family Foundation FTD grantees may not apply as PIs or co-investigators.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>How to Apply</strong>: Applicants must first submit a letter of intent through the <a href=\"https://milken.smapply.io/prog/ftd_grant_program/\">SPARC</a> online grant portal. <strong>LOIs can be maximum 750 words</strong> and should include the project title and PI name, indicate the scientific priority area, and present a succinct description of the proposed research approach. LOIs must be single-spaced, use a legible font of at least 11 points, and have one-inch margins.. Projects that are in scope and that propose rigorous, innovative research studies with significant potential to further our understanding of sporadic FTD may be invited to submit a full proposal; notifications will be sent around mid-December. At least one applicant (main or co‑applicant) must be employed at a Danish university, hospital or non‑profit research organisation.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>How to Apply</strong>: Applications should be submitted using the foundation’s online platform <a href=\"https://norma.novonordiskfonden.dk/\">NORMA</a>. The application process consists of two stages. Stage1 entails a short expression of interest limited to 10,000 characters with a preliminary budget and with a deadline of 07 October 2026. Several shortlisted applicants will be invited to Stage2 (notifications in December 2026), in which the applicants will be asked to submit an application with a detailed project proposal of 30,000 characters. Each building is intended to remain at a given location between three to fifteen years, until it is either relocated or stored for future reassembly. pool Architektur responded by designing a prefabricated timber construction system that enables a variety of spatial configurations and appearances, allowing for careful integration into the surrounding environment. Other projects such as the room-within-a-room installation for “El Gato Muerto” or the temporary hotel “Momentum” have evolved as a result of pool’s building for disassembly.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Thomas Friberg + Sophie Piticco, pool Architektur</strong><br>\r\npool Architektur evolved from a discussion platform for debates on architecture and urban planning and began its practical work as a collective in 1998. The office and its form are understood as a work in progress with regard to an ever-changing profession. The office has won numerous competitions and is primarily active in urban planning at different scales as well as residential, infrastructure and public building construction. Over the past decades, ideas and solutions have changed, as have names and faces, because diversity and change are at the heart of pool Architektur’s identity. <br>\r\n<br>\r\nThomas Friberg studied architecture at ETH Zurich. After graduating, he worked at ETH Studio Basel, David Chipperfield Architects, joining pool in 2008. In 2018 he was admitted as a new partner. <br>\r\n<br>\r\nSophie Piticco studied architecture at EPF Lausanne and ETH Zurich. After internships in Munich and Helsinki, she joined pool Architektur after graduating in 2017. Since 2023 she is an associate at the firm.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<strong>Part of School Lecture Series, Autumn 2026, Learning Vol.1</strong><br>\r\nWe are told that learning is no longer confined to the school or the university, but it has become a continuous process that involves the totality of life. Yet in accepting this reality, we take for granted several questions that loom large within the contemporary idea of learning. In a time when technology and information are ubiquitous, does it still make sense that for learning to happen or be confined within a place? Is learning still an asymmetrical relationship where there are teachers and a student? And above all, is learning accessible, or has it become too expensive a commodity? In this lecture series, we’ll attempt to answer these questions by investigating learning on different levels such as technology, construction systems, educational spaces, and above all, making architecture. Indeed, the question that is more than anything else crucial to us is whether architecture is still a place of learning and not only of empowering those who have capital to build it. We will look at schools, drawings, robots, and measuring devices.
