A t-surface consists of a (perfect) t-embedding together with its associated origami map. Perfect t-embeddings were recently introduced as a key tool for proving that the gradient of the dimer height function converges to that of the Gaussian Free Field in a canonically associated metric, under suitable technical assumptions. After introducing the notion of a t-embedding, we will describe a construction of perfect t-embeddings for regular hexagons of the hexagonal lattice. In which the corresponding t-surfaces converge to space-like maximal surfaces in Minkowski space R^{2,1}. As a consequence, these constructions yield a new proof of convergence of fluctuations of the dimer height function to the Gaussian Free Field in the conformal structure induced by the limiting maximal surface.
", "image_description": "", "creation_date": "2026-10-01T16:38:56", "last_modification_date": "2026-10-01T16:38:56", "link_label": "", "link_url": "", "canceled": "False", "cancel_reason": "", "place_and_room": "CM 1 517", "url_place_and_room": "https://plan.epfl.ch/?room==CM%201%20517", "url_online_room": "", "spoken_languages": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=api" ], "speaker": "Marianna Russkikh", "organizer": "Prof. Martin Hairer", "contact": "Juliana Velasquez", "is_internal": "False", "theme": "", "vulgarization": { "id": 2, "fr_label": "Public averti", "en_label": "Informed public" }, "registration": { "id": 3, "fr_label": "Entrée libre", "en_label": "Free" }, "keywords": "", "file": null, "icalendar_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/export/122018/", "category": { "id": 1, "code": "CONF", "fr_label": "Conférences - Séminaires", "en_label": "Conferences - Seminars", "activated": true }, "academic_calendar_category": null, "domains": [], "mementos": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/7/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/403/?format=api" ] }, { "id": 72430, "title": "Jastrow Factors and Barron Regularity of Electronic Wave Functions", "slug": "jastrow-factors-and-barron-regularity-of-electroni", "event_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/jastrow-factors-and-barron-regularity-of-electroni", "visual_url": null, "visual_large_url": null, "visual_maxsize_url": null, "lang": "en", "start_date": "2026-10-08", "end_date": "2026-10-08", "start_time": "09:30:00", "end_time": "10:30:00", "description": "
Wave functions describing bound states of electronic systems satisfy high-dimensional Schrödinger equations whose potentials exhibit Coulomb singularities at particle-collision configurations. These singularities generate cusps that limit the global regularity of the wave function in spectral Barron spaces, which are particularly relevant to the analysis of Fourier-based approximation methods and neural networks.
\r\nIn this talk, we study the effect of extracting a truncated Jastrow factor designed to capture the leading coalescence singularities while preserving the asymptotic behavior of the wave function at infinity. We show that the resulting quotient gains one full order of spectral Barron regularity: whereas the original wave function typically belongs to spaces of order (s<1), the Jastrow quotient belongs to those of order (s<2). An explicit hydrogenic example shows that the threshold (s=2) is natural.
\r\nThe proof relies on conjugating the Hamiltonian by the Jastrow factor and carrying out a global Fourier-space analysis. It combines resolvent estimates, precise control of singular coefficients, and a fixed-point argument separating low and high frequencies.
\r\n
\r\n---
\r\nThe electronic structure reading group brings together researchers and students interested in mathematical aspects of electronic structure problems and adjacent topics, including:\r\n

\r\n\t
Density Functional Theory
\r\n\t
Many-body Schrödinger equation for electrons
\r\n\t
Born-Oppenheimer Molecular Dynamics
\r\n\t
Numerical analysis and error control
\r\n
\r\nWebsite: https://matmat.org/readinggroup/
\r\n ", "image_description": "", "creation_date": "2026-08-25T16:31:13", "last_modification_date": "2026-09-02T11:49:52", "link_label": "", "link_url": "", "canceled": "True", "cancel_reason": "", "place_and_room": "GC B3 31", "url_place_and_room": "https://plan.epfl.ch/?room==GC%20B3%2031", "url_online_room": "", "spoken_languages": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/spoken_languages/2/?format=api" ], "speaker": "Virginie Ehrlacher (ENPC)", "organizer": "Michael Herbst, Noé Blassel, Niklas Schmitz", "contact": "Michael Herbst, Noé Blassel, Niklas Schmitz", "is_internal": "False", "theme": "", "vulgarization": { "id": 1, "fr_label": "Tout public", "en_label": "General public" }, "registration": { "id": 3, "fr_label": "Entrée libre", "en_label": "Free" }, "keywords": "", "file": null, "icalendar_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/export/121568/", "category": { "id": 1, "code": "CONF", "fr_label": "Conférences - Séminaires", "en_label": "Conferences - Seminars", "activated": true }, "academic_calendar_category": null, "domains": [], "mementos": [ "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/7/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/8/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/14/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/191/?format=api", "https://memento.epfl.ch/api/v1/mementos/246/?format=api" ] }, { "id": 72754, "title": "Exploring the ∞-categorical semantics of homotopy type theory", "slug": "exploring-the-categorical-semantics-of-homotopy--2", "event_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/event/exploring-the-categorical-semantics-of-homotopy--2", "visual_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/33968/200x112.jpg", "visual_large_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/33968/720x405.jpg", "visual_maxsize_url": "https://memento.epfl.ch/image/33968/max-size.jpg", "lang": "en", "start_date": "2026-10-15", "end_date": "2026-10-15", "start_time": "10:00:00", "end_time": "11:00:00", "description": "
This talk is meant to give an overview of the semantics of HoTT in (∞,1)-categories, tackling the key challenge of rigidification: the process of bridging homotopy-coherent notions phrased in models of higher categories such as quasicategories, and their type-theoretical counterparts that must account for the inherent strictness of type theory.
\r\nAfter quickly recalling the usual categorical semantics of extensional Martin-Löf type theory within locally cartesian closed category, the plan is to present some useful ideas to carry over some of the argument to the higher setting. In
\r\nthis talk, I will consider two-dimensional travelling waves governed by the full Euler equations
\r\nand driven solely by gravity. I will present two recent results. First, using global bifurcation
\r\ntheory, we construct periodic travelling waves with arbitrary vorticity. These waves may exhibit
\r\ncritical layers and overhanging profiles, illustrating the rich range of phenomena permitted in the
\r\nwater wave problem.
