The International Latsis Foundation, a charitable organization, was established in 1975 by the Greek family Latsis in Geneva. The Foundation currently awards four University Prizes, worth CHF 25,000.- each, as well as a National and a European Latsis Prize of CHF 100,000.- each.

The University Latsis Prize is awarded by the EPFL Awards Commission on behalf of the Latsis Foundation. The purpose of this award is to distinguish scientific work of particular excellence from all EPFL research areas. The Prize is primarily meant to recognize postgraduate scientific contributions made independently by junior scientists at EPFL. On rare occasions, it may also honor outstanding doctoral theses of high scientific impact.

Eligibility Criteria

Postdocs, PATTs and SNSF Funded Professors as well as Eccellenza Professorial Fellowship Grantees (tenured professors not eligible)

Resubmission limited (1 time only)

Candidates can be nominated by EPFL professors, or they can apply directly to the EPFL Research Office.


The age limit for candidates is 40 years

Important deadlines:

  • Submission deadline: 1 March 2022 (16:00 CEST)
  • Interview for pre-selected candidates: 19 May 2022
  • Decision: Summer 2022
