Molecular spin-systems, e.g. in form of two-dimensional self-assembled mono-layers of phthalocyanine derivatives or in form of redox-active molecular dyads as exemplified by the tetrathiafulvalene-fused perylenediimide (TTF-PDI) molecule, represent interesting objects towards potential applications in the field of molecular electronics. Special emphasis will be on the interaction with light, how to initiate, measure and understand photo-induced intramolecular charge-transfer transitions. Moreover, partially oxidized fused donor-acceptor molecules can also crystallize into fascinating one-dimensional spin-systems showing intriguing properties.
