Aim: The Alzheimer’s Association Research Fellowship award is intended to support exceptional researchers who are engaged in their post-graduate work (i.e. postdoctoral fellows) and before they have their first independent faculty positions (i.e. Assistant Professor) and working in diverse areas of research, including basic, translational, clinical, functional and social-behavioral research. Investigators doing clinically-focused research without clinical practice are encouraged to apply to this AARF program.
Funding: $200’000
Duration: 3 years
Eligibility: Individuals applying to the program will be accepted from postdoctoral fellows with full time positions at their respective institution who have less than 13 years of research experience after receipt of their doctorate or other terminal degree. Individuals who have a position of an Assistant Professor or above are not eligible. The Principal Investigator must commit to a 50% effort toward the proposed project each funding year. Each PI must list a mentor who will follow his/her project.
The sister program AARF-D is available for applicants who have been determined to be scientists from underrepresented groups in biomedical and behavioral research on a national or institutional basis. For more guidance, see the 2023 program announcement.
How to Apply: The two-step submission process begins with a letter of intent, which can be submitted on proposalCENTRAL. First-time users must register and fill out a Professional Profile in proposalCENTRAL to begin the LOI/application process. If EPFL will serve as your host institution, please use the following institution name in proposalCENTRAL: Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne EPFL. As part of the LOI application, you must submit a W-8-BEN-E tax form. Contact the Research Office for assistance.
Selected applicants will be requested to submit full applications. More details on required contents for full proposals can be found on pages 15-16 of the 2023 program announcement. The application must include a two/three-page statement from the selected mentor that includes information on his or her research qualifications, experience as a research supervisor and commitment to the applicant. This statement will be a significant part of the application review.
