Aim: The Alzheimer’s Association Research Grant (AARG) award aims to fund early-career investigators who are less than 18 years past their doctoral degree or post-residency (MD or DO). The purpose of this program is to provide newly independent investigators with funding that will allow them to develop preliminary or pilot data, to test procedures and to develop hypotheses. The intent is to support early-career development that will lay the groundwork for future research grant applications to federal or other funding entities.
Funding: $200’000
Duration: 3 years
Eligibility: Applicants must be Assistant Professors or above at their respective institution. Eligibility to apply for this grant competition is restricted to investigators who have less than 18 years of research experience after receipt of their terminal degree — doctorate or post-residency (M.D. or D.O.). Adjustments for career interruptions can be made. These can include, but are not limited to, family leave, military service and major illness or injury.
The sister programs AARG-D, AARG-NTF, and AARG-D-NTF are available for applicants who come from underrepresented groups and/.or are new to the field. For more guidance, see the 2023 program announcement.
How to Apply: The two-step submission process begins with a letter of intent, which can be submitted on proposalCENTRAL. First-time users must register and fill out a Professional Profile in proposalCENTRAL to begin the LOI/application process. If EPFL will serve as your host institution, please use the following institution name in proposalCENTRAL: Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne EPFL. As part of the LOI application, you must submit a W-8-BEN-E tax form. Contact the Research Office for assistance.
Selected applicants will be requested to submit full applications. More details on required contents for full proposals can be found on pages 15-16 of the 2023 program announcement. The application must include a two/three-page statement from the selected mentor that includes information on his or her research qualifications, experience as a research supervisor and commitment to the applicant. This statement will be a significant part of the application review.
