Electron Cyclotron Heating (ECH) pre-ionization is used for plasma start-up in Versatile Experiment Spherical Torus (VEST) to reduce the required loop voltage. For the microwave power absorption profiles in the ECH pre-ionization experiment, the upper-hybrid resonance layer plays an important role where mode-conversion and high collisional wave damping occur. In order to analyze the wave power transfer through this layer by means of full-wave simulations, a two-dimensional cold magnetized plasma model is applied in the commercial software COMSOL Multiphysics. Simulation results and their comparison with experimental results will be presented.
