We propose to address the problem of "monaural main instrument / accompaniment separation" along with the transcription of the melody played by the main instrument, within a unified framework. In many recent research works, these two fields, namely Blind Audio Source Separation (BASS) and Music Information Retrieval (MIR), have been brought together. Indeed, BASS aims at breaking an audio mixture into several source tracks, which can help the indexing goals of MIR. Inversely, knowledge on the audio such as musical notes or instrument labels may help BASS applications.
