Abstract: The end of the first decade of the LHC era is quickly approaching, and despite the non-appearance of beyond Standard Model physics, there is much to do and much to be excited about. I will introduce the big ideas of experimental high-energy physics and beauty quark flavor physics in particular, and the role they play in pushing back the frontiers of our knowledge. In particular, I will discuss one intriguing tension which has emerged regarding lepton flavor universality in semileptonic b-hadron decays, which may indicate something unexpected within or outside of the current paradigm. Finally, I will give a perspective on what lies on the horizon for b-physics and HEP more broadly.
