The SensUs international student competition brings together teams from around the world to develop innovative biosensors for health applications. This year, the Biosense EPFL competition team has been hard at work creating a biosensor for the 2024 SensUs competition focused on acute kidney injury detection. The multidisciplinary project involves developing a bioassay, evaluating different sensing modalities such as ISFET, SPE and biophotonics, and integrating the chosen sensor with custom electronics. Business planning and translational potential are also key aspects. The team recently participated in the Distributed Testing Event, an opportunity to test their biosensor under real competition conditions as a warmup for the main event. With those results in hand, they are now gearing up for the final competition at the SensUs Innovation Days in Eindhoven in August. There, they will compete against other teams in analytical performance, creativity, translational potential and more, as evaluated by an expert panel of judges from academia, industry and healthcare. The team looks forward to showcasing their hard work at this exciting event.
