The mandate of the Botnar Research Center for Child Health (BRCCH) is to drive the development of innovative and step-changing health solutions for those who are most in need.

With the support of Fondation Botnar, the BRCCH is launching a Fast-Track Call to address several critical areas related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Call’s objective is to both enable research that will help mitigate medical and public health challenges in the short-term, and to also contribute solutions that will lead to better preparedness and reduced global disease burden in the long-term.

The BRCCH seeks step-changing projects that can deliver immediate impact in the following research areas:

  • Diagnostics for COVID-19
  • Human Immune Response to COVID-19
  • Medical Interventions and Disease Management for COVID-19

Who can apply:
  • Applicants must be tenured, tenure-track or non-tenure researchers from a BRCCH partner institution (University of Basel, ETH Zurich, University Children’s Hospital Basel and Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute).
  • Collaborators can be from other research organisations, including Swiss and international institutions, hospitals and/or industry/start-up partners. Collaborators are expected to provide defined scientific contributions and to enable the consortium to deliver immediate impact.

Funding and duration:
  • CHF 0.5M to 2.5M for 30 months.
  • Does NOT cover: Salaries of Collaborators and of Collaborators’ personnel, infrastructure and overheads.

Timeline of the call:
  • Deadline: 8 April 2020 at 11:00 CET

  • Decision: late April 2020
  • Earliest start of the project: 1 May 2020
