Abstract: The terahertz (THz) band is emerging as a key enabler for a wide range of data-intensive applications, offering high-speed communication alongside high-resolution sensing capabilities. As the availability of THz-operating devices improves, the demand for circuits capable of achieving terabit-per-second (Tbps) data rates is increasing. This talk explores the signal processing challenges involved in harnessing the hundreds of gigahertz of available bandwidth to achieve practical Tbps throughput. We highlight efficient approaches to data detection and channel-code decoding, emphasizing the role of spatial parallelizability and the importance of leveraging structure in physically consistent channel models.
About the speaker: Hadi Sarieddeen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the American University of Beirut (AUB). He received his Ph.D. from AUB in 2018 and held postdoctoral positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) between 2019 and 2022. His research interests include signal processing and communication theory, with a focus on THz-band communications, error correction coding, and semantic communications.
