Categorified quantum groups are additive 2-categories introduced by Khovanov and Lauda,
whose split Grothendieck groups recover the underlying quantum group.
In the first part of my talk I'll give a gentle introduction into
the Khovanov-Lauda diagrammatic approach to 2-categories
and explain their relationship to link homology theories.
In the second part I'll present our new results computing the Hochschild homology of these
2-categories and discuss their applications to annular Khovanov homology.
