Aim: CIFAR invites outstanding early career researchers from across the natural, biomedical, life and social sciences and the humanities to join one of four interdisciplinary research programs that address some of the most important questions facing science and humanity. The CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholars program is designed to accelerate the development of early career researchers in their pivotal first years as independent principal investigators in an academic or research institution, with responsibilities for research and teaching.

The programs accepting applications are:
 
Awardees remain at their home institution throughout their two-year term. The research funding associated with the award is administered through the recipient’s institutional department.

Funding: CAD $100,000

Duration: 2 years (term will begin on 1 April 2024 and end on 31 March 2026)

Eligibility: Applicants may be based anywhere in the world, must hold a PhD (or equivalent) and be within the first five years of starting a full-time position at an institution of higher education or research, with responsibilities that include both conducting an independent research program and supervising/teaching trainees toward the completion of a degree.
Postdoctoral fellows are NOT eligible to apply to this program, with the following exception: If you have a pending first full-time position that meets the full eligibility criteria and starts no later than 1 July 2024, you are eligible to apply. In this case, you must submit a copy of your letter of appointment with your application.

How to Apply: Applications are made through an online application system, and include a Summary section, a Detailed section, and two to three Letters of recommendation. Note that the letters of recommendation must be submitted independently on the platform by the referees, and are also due by the application’s deadline. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a virtual selection meeting on 20 or 21 March 2024; final results will be communicated by 29 March 2024.
