Collective Processes by Natalie Donat-Cattin will be presented in the Foyer SG at 18h30. A brief introduction of the book will be followed by a roundtable with most of the collectives represented in the book, centered on the question: what does a collective process in architecture entail and how does it influence the planning of our built environment? The event is organised in collaboration with Superstudio and Archizoom and will close up with an aperitivo and a concert. On this occasion the book will be sold by the Librairie L’intégrale at the building SG entrance from 18h00.
Brief summary of the book
Although the hierarchically organized office, with its claim to individual authorship, still dominates the architectural landscape, horizontally organized collectives with alternative approaches to planning and thinking about architecture are increasingly emerging.
In this insightful survey of renowned European collectives in architecture, Donat-Cattin provides an introduction and overview of the range of their working methods, forms of organization, goals, and projects. A roundtable discussion offered the participating collectives an opportunity to discuss their particular experiences and to debate larger questions of changing the architectural process and the approach to the discipline itself.
The collectives represented are: (ab)Normal, A-A Collective, Assemble, baukuh, CNCRT, Colectivo Warehouse, Collectif Etc, constructLab, false mirror office, Fosbury Architecture, la–clique, Lacol, n’UNDO, orizzontale, raumlabor, X=(T=E=N), and Zuloark.
