More specifically, how can the integration of handcraft techniques in housing projects contribute to fostering a sense of community?

Carles Oliver Barceló is an architect from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) and stonemason master builder for professional necessity. During his studies, he received scholarships to study to UC Los Angeles, TU Delft and ETSAM. From 2007 to 2009, he shared a studio with Francisco Cifuentes, from whom he learned to design from construction. Since 2009, he is member of the Balearic Social Housing Institute (IBAVI), where he has directed the climate change adaptation project ‘Life Reusing Posidonia’ in Formentera, which has been awarded with the 2021 LIFE Award for Best Environment Project by the European Commission. From 2019 to 2023 he has been responsible for the IBAVI Technical Department. He has been co-author of some other pilot projects such as 5, 8 & 19 social dwellings in Palma, or 6 in Santa Eugènia, the eco-neighbourhood in Campos, and refurbishment projects like Sant Miquel 19 or Can Lliro. The projects developed both individually and as part of the IBAVI team have received some awards that facilitate the credibility to propose certain kind of stuff. This work has been widely published and exhibited.
