Controlling Chaos: from Coherence to Calorics
Bottom-up design of molecular and material structure offers a powerful approach to tackle challenges spanning energy and information technologies, from the ‘cold chain’ to quantum devices. In this talk, I will first discuss tailoring paramagnetic organometallic complexes as molecular platforms for quantum sensing and communication. Then, I will highlight how phase-change materials provide a tunable platform for sustainable thermal energy systems. These two areas are unified by synthetic inorganic chemistry that controls structure–function relationships in pursuit of emerging sustainable and quantum-enabled technologies.
