When suitably exploited, direct communications between devices can enable a powerful collective intelligence, allowing them to cooperate effectively. Because device cooperation is carried out on the basis of partial and noisy channel state measurements, a framework for decentralized coordination is essential. We start by giving a (very brief) introduction to the general fields of Coordination and Team Decision theories. We then present some practical applications in wireless networks and practical gains in typical scenarios are illustrated.
