Category Call for proposal
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is an intergovernmental framework supporting transnational cooperation among researchers from academia, industry and the public and private sector.

COST Actions allow European researchers to jointly develop their own ideas in any field of science and technology (including interdisciplinary, new and emerging fields). Multi- and interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged.

Funding for COST Actions is exclusively dedicated to cover collaboration activities and does NOT fund the research itself (see below).

COST invites proposals for Actions aiming at contributing to the scientific, technological, economic, cultural or societal knowledge advancement and development of Europe to close the gap between science, policy makers and society throughout Europe and beyond. Proposals should reflect the main characteristics of COST Actions, namely providing for knowledge sharing, creation and application, being open and output-oriented while aiming at strengthening the scientific and technological basis of the proposed topic(s).

Who can apply:
  • A COST Action can be initiated by a network of proposers from at least 7 COST Members amongst which a minimum number shall be from COST Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC). Non-COST Members (Near Neighbour Countries and International Partner Countries) can join based on mutual benefit.
  • Proposers can be any career stages and come from any type of institutions (academia, public institutions, SME/Industry, NGO, European/International organisations, etc.)

Funding & Duration: EUR 129.000 p.a. for 48 months.
  • Eligible costs: funding for COST Actions is exclusively dedicated to cover collaboration activities, such as workshops, conferences, working group meetings, training schools, short-term scientific missions, and dissemination and communication activities.
