By the Goodwillie-Weiss manifold calculus one can translate (to a certain degree) the problem of studying embedding spaces into the algebraic problem of studying mapping spaces between En operads, and their modules. It has been argued that not much is achieved by this translation, as the algebraic problem is still notoriously hard. However, I claim that progress can be made on the algebraic side by studying graph complexes which "govern" the deformation theory of the En operads. This talk is based on several joint works with B. Fresse, V. Turchin, A. Khoroshkin and M. Zivkovic, partially in progress.
