Abstract:
The recreation of reality works constantly, second by second. All interoceptive and exteroceptive stimuli ensemble together in a unified experience that depends not only on the integration of multiple and newly incoming perceptions, but also on the ability of our rationality to operate with them, as well as on those motivational processes that redirect our body, emotions, and senses towards ongoing temporal scenarios.
The study of the pathophysiological mechanisms subserving the development of hallucinations, progressive cognitive impairment, and apathy in people with Parkinson’s disease helps us to understand better which mind contents build in our self our identity, and how this process of self-identification is permanently or intermittently transformed depending on the information connecting with the default mode network circuits.
