Abstract:
In this talk, I’ll introduce our past 10 year’s activities related to educational robots.
The topics include
  • Background R&D on entertainment robots in Sony (-2004)
  • Exploratory field study of educational robots in a nursery in California (2004-2007)
  • Care-receiving robot and its commercial application released from SoftBank (2009-)
  • (If time permits) intelligent interface connecting multiple generations (Current).

Bio:
Fumihide Tanaka obtained his Ph.D. at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2003. He worked on R&D for entertainment robots at Sony Corporation, Digital Creatures Laboratory from 2003 to 2008. He started educational robot researches at University of California, San Diego (2004-2007), and moved back to academia since 2008, The University of Tokyo (-2014). He obtained the Best Paper Award at IEEE RO-MAN 2005, and have been an active member of the HRI community.
