Sustainability of hydraulic infrastructures and water systems
Sustainability, an overused expression? Certainly not! On the contrary, the recently published 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations strive to give a sound guideline for a sustainable future.
Hydraulic infrastructures and water systems play a crucial role in achieving these goals by storing water used for drinking and irrigation, and providing renewable energy and infrastructure for hazard mitigation. However, a sustainable use implies integrated reservoir sediment management, ecological connectivity of the water system, rehabilitation and efficiency increase of existing infrastructure as well as resilience and adaptive strategies coping with climate change.
This talk gives examples on successful reservoir sediment management, ecological connectivity of water systems as well as resilience increase of hydraulic infrastructures.
