Aim
Support for excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they are already established research leaders with a recognised track record of research achievements. 
 An ERC Advanced Grant Principal Investigator is expected to be an active researcher and to have a track record of significant research achievements. The scientific excellence of the research project and the applicant’s track record are the only evaluation criteria.

Lump-sum Funding & duration
Up to EUR 2.5 mio. for a period of 5 years, including 25% overhead. For shorter project periods, the budget will be applied pro rata temporis. Additional funding up to EUR 1 mio., including 25% overhead, may be requested for (a) start-up costs for PIs moving to Switzerland as a consequence of receiving the ERC grant, and or (b) purchase of major equipment, and/or (c) access to large facilities, and/or (d) other major experimental and field work costs (excluding personnel costs).
The budget submitted for evaluation must provide the details which allow the sound assessment of the requested resources. Payment of the lump sum contribution will be based on the work carried out and reported, irrespective of the actual costs incurred.

Eligibility
Support for excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they are already established research leaders with a recognised track record of research                                achievements. Principal Investigators must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition, and feasibility of their research proposal.
